Branson Aldermen Pass Ordinance to Encourage Electric Vehicle Use

The City of Branson’s Board of Aldermen passed an ordinance that prohibits any person from parking a vehicle that is not an electric vehicle (EV) in an area designated for EV charging, at the last Board of Aldermen meeting, held August, 27 at City Hall. This is to encourage the use of EV’s and to make sure those who drive them are not inconvenienced by others.

This ordinance originated from a submission through the City’s “Feedback & Questions” section on the City’s website, (http://bransonmo.gov/310/Feedback-Questions). An investigation by the City discovered that this act is a common problem nationwide.

This ordinance means law enforcement can ticket anyone who is parked in EV charging stations but is not charging a vehicle. The ordinance can also be enforced on private property where the owner of that property has requested enforcement by the City. This violation will be punishable by a fine not less than $25 nor more than $150 per occurrence.

The EV stations are used by both travelers and residents. The City is often thanked by travelers for being forward-thinking enough to have them in town.
