Nightly Rentals Not Allowed in Branson Neighborhoods

In light of recent complaints regarding prohibited nightly rentals, the City of Branson would like to remind residents and visitors nightly rentals are generally not permitted in neighborhood areas.

In order to operate a nightly rental out of a home and then be able to advertise it on such websites as Airbnb, VRBO or HomeAway, you are required to obtain a business license from the City. According to Branson Municipal Code Sec. 22-36, “A business license may not be granted to a business that provides lodging for legal consideration for a term less than 30 consecutive days in a district zoned Low-Density Residential.” This code can be found on the City’s website.

Similar to any violation of the City’ code, someone illegally operating a nightly rental business could receive a citation and a penalty to be determined by a judge.

If you have any questions about if a nightly rental is allowed in your area or to report an illegal nightly rental, you can call the Branson City Hall at (417) 334-8592 or click on the “Feedback & Questions” link on our website, to submit a question or code violation.
