Branson’s Prescription Drug Take Back Event a Big Success

Out of the 250 collection sites in the State of Missouri for the recent National Prescription Drug Take Back event that was held Saturday April 28, the Branson Police department brought in the 22nd highest amount in the state with 400 pounds of prescription drugs.


Overall, the State of Missouri brought in 43,519 tons of expired or unused drugs that had the potential to be misused. According to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) 53% of misused prescription drugs come from family and friends.


Branson Police are happy with the turn out for the event and want to thank everyone who contributed and encourage residents to keep up the good work. The Branson Police Department will offer another prescription drug take back event in the Fall, but also offers a permanent drop off location in the Dispatch lobby of the Police Department.


This kind of drug take back is a vital piece of the Branson Police Department’s drug prevention efforts. Disposing of unused and expired medication keeps them out of the hands of family and friends that may misuse them.
