Branson Parks and Recreation Receives $4,000 Grant

Skaggs Legacy Endowment Awards Funds for Youth Scholarship Program
Thanks to a grant provided by Skaggs Legacy Endowment more Branson area children will have the opportunity to participate in athletic programs at Branson Parks and Recreation. This was one of nineteen grants awarded by the endowment fund totaling over $600,000 to support programs that improve health and wellness. This is the second year for Branson Parks and Recreation to receive this grant.
“We are very excited to receive this grant designed to involve more kids in our athletic programs,” stated Branson Parks and Recreation Director Cindy Shook. Programs range from $35-40 for our area youth to participate in sports activities including baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, and swim lessons. “This will allow area youth to participate in these sports, even if they are without adequate means to pay for the program,” stated Shook.
The grant will allow area youth to receive a scholarship to reduce program costs to as little as $5.00 to participate. To qualify for the scholarship, the family must also qualify for free and reduced lunch program at school.
“Our City is committed to creating opportunities for our local youth to participate in our parks and recreation programs,” stated Shook. “Over 100 area youth received scholarships last year and thanks to the Skaggs Legacy Endowment, even more will have the opportunity in 2018 to participate in programs that promote active and healthy lifestyles,” added Shook.
Area youth desiring to apply for a scholarship may pick up an application at the Branson RecPlex or from their website at or by calling (417) 335-2368 for more information.
