Branson, MO (Sunday, December 4, 2016) – The Branson Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire this morning at 400 Watermill Drive, part of the Welk Resort property. The call came in at 5:39AM, and first arriving units discovered the roofline and attic 100% involved in fire.
Currently on scene is the Branson Fire Department, Western Taney County Fire Protection District, Southern Stone County Fire Protection District, College of the Ozarks Fire Department, along with Taney County Paramedics. One Branson Fire Department employee was transported to Cox Hospital for a minor injury and has been treated and released.
This is a 4-story building under construction, part of a 2 building condominium addition. The building was not occupied, although there were reports of possible workers working inside the structure. Firefighters initiated a search of the building, however, they were pushed back due to the heavy fire conditions.
Crews are currently searching through heavy debris on the fourth floor debris to ensure the structure is clear of workers. Strategy was to first prevent fire from spreading to the second building by creating a water block before fighting the fire in the structure involved in fire. The two adjacent lower buildings were occupied by guests and evacuated, but have been allowed back into their units.
The Missouri State Fire Marshal has been contacted to assist Branson Fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire.
