Action taken by Branson Board of Aldermen at August 24, 2010 meeting
New development approved in north Branson. Aldermen gave final approval to a new development called St. Andrews in Branson Hills along north Highway 65 on the west side. The development will include multi-family units with time shares, recreational facilities, indoor swimming pool and a clubhouse replicating the historic clubhouse in St. Andrews, Scotland. The clubhouse will have a restaurant and meeting rooms. Annual property tax levy set for next year. Board established a property tax rate of $.5186 cents per $100 of assessed property valuation within the city limits of Branson. This tax rate will be collected in the 2011 budget year. It’s an increase of 1.4% from the $.4909 rate last year.

Branson's 22nd Annual Fiddle Festival kicks off Friday
The 22nd Annual Fiddle Festival kicks off Friday (Aug. 27) in Branson at two adjoining locations, Branson Landing on the Lake Taneycomo lakefront and in the Downtown Historic District.
This free festival brings thousands of music-loving visitors to Branson, and attracts the greatest fiddling talent of all ages from all over the country, said festival producer Bill Lennon. To help visitors make the most of the festival, there will be free trolley service between the two locations.The weekend kicks off at 8 p.m. Friday night with Big Smith in concert at Branson Landing. The preliminary fiddle rounds will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Branson Landing.

Branson firefighters cooking steak sandwiches for MDA
If you ever wanted to experience incredible “firehouse cooking,” plan on joining Branson firefighters on Thursday, August 26 for lunch as they marinate, cook, and slice up some tender ribeye steak sandwiches to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). “Each year Fire Chief Carl Sparks challenges the firefighters in August to develop a program that improves our fire-rescue operations or community services to our residents and visitors,” said Fire Captain Mike McCarty.  “We took a community service angle this year of cooking up a special steak sandwich lunch that would be an easy eat-in or carry-out for folks, and in turn benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association as well.”

Missing Branson woman found safe
The Branson Police Department has announced that 87-year old Louise Edna Parker has been located and is in good physical condition. Ms. Parker walked into the Branson Recycle Center on Compton Drive this morning around 10 a.m. Employees at the center spoke with her and discovered that she was the elderly woman who has been reported missing since Monday afternoon when she reportedly went for a walk.

Branson Police participating in statewide impaired driving campaign
The Branson Police Department received a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Division for participation in the "You Drink & Drive. You Lose" statewide campaign which will run from August 20 – September 6, 2010. Law enforcement efforts will be increased and will focus on reducing deaths and serious injuries caused by impaired drivers.

Action taken by Branson Board of Aldermen at August 10, 2010 meeting
Board allows private banners to promote shows. Aldermen amended the city code to allow banners on private property to promote shows and events happening at their theater or attraction. Currently, the code only allows the name or logo of the business on banners, but does not allow for identifying any specific event or show that may be occurring at the business.

City to begin fall Citizens Academy September 20
Branson residents can learn more about the workings of city government, its projects and its goals by signing up for the next Citizens Academy.  Classes begin September 20, and citizens can begin registering now. The Academy is an eight-week session designed to provide citizens with a close up view of all facets of city government – from emergency services and transportation to the business of water and budgeting your tax dollars.

City seeking citizen involvement in creating comprehensive plan
Branson city leaders will be conducting an informational Open House this Thursday, August 12 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Branson Convention Center to receive citizen input on the city’s new comprehensive plan. The meeting will be in the Cooper Creek Room. City leaders are in the process of creating a comprehensive plan that will guide the development and growth of the city and address future needs of citizens and businesses. The city’s planning and development department will be making presentations during the meeting at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to explain the proposed comprehensive plan.
